I would like to take this opportunity to thank the IFC members for the use of the clubhouse on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 for the first Blood Drive. While we didn’t not have an extremely good turn out, I would like to think that we have now “planted the seed” and the donations will continue to increase. We had 35 people come to donate and were able to take donations from 18 people. We had to turn the 17 people away due to low hemoglobin and alcohol intake. But, that is 18 units that we did not have at the beginning of the day!

I am hopeful that the IFC will continue to allow us to have blood drives at the clubhouse – perhaps one every two months. It will also be a wonderful way for the IFC to promote the many good causes that it supports. The people from the club that assisted were very helpful and the cookies were wonderful (a special thanks to whoever made the oatmeal cookies…outstanding!)! Thank you all again and I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. As always, please feel free to contact me for any questions, comments, ideas that you might have. I am happy to assist!

Thanks to the following for their assistance:

  • Hotel Los Arcos for donating lounge chairs
  • IFC members for donating juice and cookies
  • The IFC volunteers:
    Bill Becker
    Susan Davalos
    Valeska Guerrero
    Jenny Pray
    Leon Rolnick
    Kitty Leonard
    Yvonne Ward

The Thank you Column…..
Once again the donations have been rolling in. Muchas Gracias a todos!

The IFC received a cash donation from Richard Vuors of Snohomish, WA,. We also received a generous cash donation for the ongoing care of Anabel, one of our Patrocinio patients ,from Cindy Becker and students and families of the Port Washington Catholic School in Port Washington, WI.

We recently received school supplies from Thomas Geurts of Fond du Lac, WI, Dennis and Karen York of Vancouver, WA and Kathy Davis Milner and Jim Milner of Kirkland, WA. Kathy and Jim also donated bedding and a large supply of children’s shoes which were passed along to the R.I.S.E. orphanage. Thanks all for the great supplies folks!

Marge Hasert of Churchville, New York sent us several children's’ books in Spanish. They have been distributed to two needy families with young children and were so enthusiastically received. The children were just enthralled with their own books to keep (see photo of boy reading book above).

A big thanks to the Camarena Health Center in Madera, CA for donating a huge amount of dental supplies. We received training videos, a large demonstration puppet with teeth and toothbrush, and lots of kits for children with brushing instructions, toothbrushes, tooth paste, and special prizes. These have been invaluable to Susan Davalos, our Community Aid Chairperson (see Susan’s article on pg 3).

Many thanks to Ameri-Med for donating their surgery room and a portion of the supplies used for eye surgery for a young girl named Mitzi.

And finally, very special thanks to Dr. Federico Reinking in Mexico City for performing ear surgery for free for local Vallartan, Susana Ochoa. She’s able to hear quite well now in her operated ear. The surgery was a great success!

We sincerely appreciate the thoughtfulness and generosity of all.
