They have expressed enthusiasm for even increasing attendance. They are to be heartily congratulated, along with their docents, for their continued and dedicated support of this major program. Another phase of the Home Tours concerned the bus service. Bill Becker, consultant, did the research on buses and bus service available here in PV, devoting many hours to this task. As a result, we now have a contract with the supplier of our home-tour buses to provide only top-rated equipment, nationally-licensed bus drivers, and proper insurance coverage, plus on-going bus inspection (Our thanks, too, to Mel Bornstein and Allan Badner who gave their time and input to resolve this project). MEDICAL PROGRAM: Chaired by Patricia Mendez and Joann Quickstad who obviously have very strong constitutions and high energy levels. They never disappoint in what they achieve; they just completed the summer Cleft Palate session, August 4 and 5. They have added another member to assist them--an energetic and very enthusiastic young man with like program experience (in South America). Welcome to you, Nicolas Gandia. You are sorely needed. We thank you for joining us in this humanitarian endeavor. COMMUNITY SERVICES (including PATROCINIO PROGRAM): Susan Davalos, a nurse, never-tiring and always there with a helping hand. Susan also participates in the Cleft Palate program (always present for the 2 days of surgeries), and conducts our Dental and Feed-the-Children Program, and the many duties of the Patrocinio Program which is full of surprises. What would we do without you, Susan. SPECIAL THANKS TO: Dr. Giora Hahn and members Charles and Sandy Israel for their generosity in acquiring a long-awaited and sought after anesthesiology machine for use in our Cleft Palate Program. As soon as they knew of our desperate search for a donor, they came to the rescue. Because of the availability of this machine, we will now be able to treat a greater number of afflicted children. Our sincere thanks again. In connection with our Medical Program you will be interested to know that we are in contact with various groups in the United States who are dedicated to helping us with medical equipment and school supplies. A shipment from some of them is also expected shortly. We will have more to tell you then. FROM THE PRESIDENT Hello to all of you members and friends. How nice it will be to have you back here in Puerto Vallarta for the 2004-2005 season. These summer months have been filled with the ongoing IFC task of trying to solve problems brought to us by those pleading for our help, and some behind-the-scene activities in preparation for current "aid" programs and others to be scheduled during our high-season months. Roll up your sleeves; we need your backing, physical assistance, and support; sometimes it's only a one-shot deal. Do watch for more fund-raising events like the Halloween Fiesta Friday, Oct. 29. We'd like to see you there. BE SURE TO READ about the Educational Medical Program by Pamela Thompson--make your reservations now! And don't miss reading about the other planned events coming your way. |
