Member Marcy Kengott sent us a very clever Christmas poem, in hopes that we could publish it in our December Newsletter. Unfortunately we just didn’t have enough space. With Christmas only a week or so past, we hope you’ll enjoy reading Marcy’s poem which will probably provoke a smile and a chuckle or two as you reflect upon the wonderful Christmas that we all recently experienced.

CHRISTMAS EVE IN PUERTO VALLARTA

T’was the night before Christmas,

And all thru the town

No noses were frozen

No snow fluttered down

No children in flannels

Were tucked into bed

They all wore their shortie

Pajamas instead.

Huaraches were placed

On the balcony with care

In hopes that St. Nicholas

Soon would be there

The casas were decked

With piñatas galore

And tacos for Santa

Were placed by the door.

No shovels were needed,

No new fallen snow

The vendors were busy

With “prices so low” (almost free)

Ma Ma and Pa Pa

Had gone early to bed

As siestas were missed

They made presents instead.

The tropical moon

Gave the city a glow

And lighted the way

For Santa to go.

There were no chimneys

For him to come down,

A little Volkswagen

Brought him into town.

He jumped from the car,

He gave a big chuckle,

All dressed in Bermudas

And big silver buckle.

He stopped at each casa

Stayed only a minute

Emptied his sack

With the toys that were in it.

He had a margarita

And some chips and salsa dip

We knew at that moment

It must be St. Nick.

He gave a big smile

He was finished at last

But with cobblestone streets

You can’t go very fast.

When what to his wondering

Eyes should appear

Out on the Malacon

The answer was clear.

The para-sails were ready

And waiting that night

To carry him home

On his northbound flight.

He tipped his sombrero

As he went on his way

Say, “Feliz Navidad,

Wish I could stay!”
