TOYS FOR TOTS CHARITY GOLF SCRAMBLE Jerry Lafferty Tel. 221-6156 E-mail: laffja@aol.com
IFC has joined forces with the Navy League this year to sponsor the Toys for Tots program in Puerto Vallarta. This annual fundraiser has gained in momentum and contribution to the most needy kids of the Bahia, and is a welcome addition to the good deeds with which we are involved. We encourage all of our members to support Toys for Tots, either by playing in the golf scramble, or attending the wonderful dinner that follows, or both! The event this year will be held on Saturday, December 13. The golf scramble will be held at the Marina Golf Club with a shotgun start at 8 am. Make up your own foursome, or you can be paired with other players. Cost for golf will be $100 USD per player, with all proceeds going to buying toys. The Marina Golf Club is donating their course that morning free of charge. There will be a number of prizes awarded at the Gala Dinner, so don't miss this fun event if you're into golf. The Gala Dinner will be held at the Marriott Casa Magna Hotel at 8 pm. This has evolved into one of the highlights of the PV Winter Season, with gourmet fare provided by the Marriott, including drinks, wine and entertainment. Many door prizes will be awarded, including roundtrip tickets on Continental Airlines. The Marriott does all this without charge, so again the total $50 USD cost per person is used to acquire toys. Please plan to attend whether you play golf or not. Tickets are available from Kirsten at the IFC Clubhouse, at the Marina and Vista Pro Shops, the Marriott Concierge, Kelly Trainor at the U.S. Consul's Office, or from Navy League members (call Jerry Lafferty at 221 6156). Buy early and often!! Cost is $150 (1,650 pesos.) for golf and dinner, or $50 (550 pesos) for dinner only. Payment can be made in cash or by check made payable to International Friendship Club. So, please clear your calendars now so as not to miss this annual fun event that supports a uniquely worthwhile cause (originally inspired by the U.S. Marine Corps) and which now stretches across the globe. Last year U.S. $ 20,000 was raised in PV, and 5,000 toys were distributed. Nevertheless, many more children than those who received a gift were left in the cold. This year we are hoping for a record turnout that will allow for at least a 50% increase in the number of needy kids who experience one precious moment of joy on Three Kings Day. IFC is proud to be a part of it. |
BAZAAR An effort was made to recruit a new chair person to continue the gigantic annual IFC February bazaar held at the Lazaro Cardenas del Rio School for several years, however, no one has come forward. Sooooooooooo, what we will try to do is possibly hold a mini bazaar at the IFC clubhouse and patio area, if we can get permission to do this. And, perhaps, if successful and workable, have more than one during the season. As soon as we have some concrete information we'll report back to you. In the meantime, think about what you might have to offer to this kind of event; we'd be looking for good quality items. In this kind of bazaar, all members should be willing to participate in some way. And, members will be able to purchase items. However, like any other event, this will require a great number of volunteers if this will come to fruition. Let us have your thoughts and ideas on the possibility of this mini bazaar. Many thanks.
