It was a little hard to , "get back in the saddle", so to speak after my week of R&R with my husband in IXTAPA, MX.  We are very thankful to the Alder’s for their wonderful donation of the week in the resort that was auctioned at the Feb. mtg.  The proceeds were donated to the IFC.

I was recently at HOSPITAL REGIONAL with a group handing out little baggies of generously donated soaps and shampoos to the patients.  I met a lady who had just gone on the home tour (helper not patient!) with her husband.  They had a great time and are planning to come back next year and do it again.  When you see a docent--give a big thanks.  They are part of what makes this town tick!! A big thanks to the home owners without which there would be no tour to have.

Robin Bouchard's program (Arturo y los Hijos de Dios) was the recipient of a day of volunteers that really worked to paint the homes in the safe house in Las Palmas.  We left it a different place than when we arrived.  There was another group of volunteers that went in later that month and spent many hours painting the insides.   For the families that live there, it was very uplifting.  Their habitat was really spruced up.  The program is supported by donations.  The IFC assists with the Rice and Beans Program and the Food 4Kids program.

I spoke with Mario, the 43 yr. old man who needs sight saving surgery.  His left eye is still swollen, post-op, but not big enough to hide the smile on his face.  Although, this is a long haul, his doctors report that healing is taking place. Mario suffers from diabetic retinopathy. The surgery will not correct his vision but is supposed to halt the progression.   He was heading back to Guadalajara Friday to have another surgery to the same eye.  Please keep him in your thoughts.

As the season and the visitors dwindle, my co-workers and I are putting together the May Cleft Palate program.  You may remember, that I am asking for donations of small easy to read (Spanish) picture books to have available for the families in the form of a library.  I have a promised donation for next year of a TV-VCR combo. I am still looking for VCR tapes that have anything to do with dental hygiene, nutrition or health related matters.  As I work in many places in the community, these need not be children’s material only (just Spanish).  I do appreciate the donations and work of all associated with our program.  Those of us who work for the program could not without your support.

Finally, I would like to thank you for donations of medical supplies and remind you that all sutures should be in their packaging and medications within the expiration date on the container.

Get Well

Our get well wishes to Kitty Leonard, Corresponding Secretary, on a rapid recovery from foot surgery.  She thanks the IFC for the use of one of our wheelchairs, which Patricia Mendez kindly delivered to her.  We missed you at all of the meetings, Kitty!

Thank You Column:

Once again, donations have been rolling in…

J Mr. and Mrs. Kirk and Marcia Hopkins-Hudson, of Ohio donated a nice full bag of school supplies.  Marcia is a teacher for grades 4 & 5 Multi-age classes in Streetsboro, OH who gathered supplies donated by her students to bring down with her.  Many thanks students!

J Eleney Monty Lee from Oakland, CA also donated school supplies, 2 shopping bags full!

J Mr. Thomas Geurts of Fond du Lac, WI mailed us another nice box of school supplies.  Thanks again Thomas!

J Gloria Green from Bay City, MI donated a bag full of toiletries.

J On behalf of Valeska and the IFC board, we would like to thank Earl Jones from Hamburg, MI who has been helping in the office for the last 3 months now.  He worked very well with the computer system, inputting all the new and renewal membership data, organizing name tags, helping with the newsletter, answering the phone and giving out information.  Thank you Earl and we will see you in the fall!—Valeska
