We're approaching the outer end of the "high season" when many of you are planning, or already packing, to leave Puerto Vallarta.  Isn't it true, we always think to ourselves, "it seems that we just arrived and already we're preparing to leave".  That's why we try to cram in so many activities while here before the calendar reads "departure date".  But, didn't we have a grand time?  This year especially there have been so many weekly events to choose from we were lacking space on our calendars.

We still have our General Meeting April 13 to inaugurate our club officers, and will have as our entertaining speaker and Publicity Chair, Don Gallery, to tell us about growing up in Hollywood among some of the greatest stars as the only child of one of them.  Don is also president of the Writers' Club which meets weekly at the clubhouse.

Our Fund Raising Committee is busy accumulating ideas for activities and will be honing in on those that are feasible and will generate interest and excitement.   If you have any idea to pass on to him from some event you have attended stateside, or chaired,  please share it with Bill Platzer, Committee Chair, at Williamplatzer@msn.com

Here are our latest new members, and how happy we are to say hello and welcome!

We truly appreciate your interest in what we do and will anticipate seeing you at our meetings and other activities planned for the coming Fall-Winter-Spring 2004-2005 season.  To ensure that all of you get to know one another, we will have a Welcoming Committee at each meeting to introduce you to members you may not have met.  After all, that is the thrust of our membership--to join with friends and do good deeds here for those who need our help.

By the way, we've just acquired a 10% discount for the El Tigre Sunday Brunch at Paradise Village Golf and Country Club  Just show your IFC membership card.  Note the other great restaurants that have been added to the list.  Remember to approach the manager of your favorite eateries for a discount (always nice to get 15-20 %, if possible).  Ask Valeska at the clubhouse for the form to carry with you--the restaurant keeps one and gives a signed one to us for our file.  Thanks for the effort (If you don't have the form, just have the manager put the discount for the IFC on a business card).

It's occurred to us that some of you enjoy dancing, right?  But, you don't really know the Rumba, Cha-Cha, Samba, Merengue, or Tango; or maybe the Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep or even the Viennese Waltz.  Would any of you be interested in paying for instructions by a couple of renowned international dance champions?  If so, let me know by email.  Dancing is not only fun, but great exercise.

For those of you who will be back or still here in October, we are planning to stage an exciting event the latter part of the month.  We'll have more details soon--watch your emails and the NEWSLETTER.

Here's something interesting that came to our attention recently through email.  The questions was--

"WHERE DO THE HAPPIEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD LIVE?  The answer? Nigeria--with those living in Mexico coming in second...according to this particular study, the Nigerian and Mexican cultures emphasize faith and family above all else.  This study also found that sometimes those with the least material possessions are actually happier than those who appear to have everything.  Remember, your family (and friends) first."

Hasta que nos Veamos (until we meet again...)

P.S.--Checks for the IFC must be made out to our Spanish name:  CLUB INTERNACIONAL DE LA AMISTAD--required by our bank here.

IFC president, Al Ward and Mel Bornstein present a check for $49,000 pesos as our contribution to construct a library and sitting area for students  to study at the El Canton school in Ixtapa...

Receiving the check is PV Mayor, Gustavo Glez Villasenor and Chief of Education Lidia Sarocco.

This  is all part of an ongoing relationship that the IFC has  and cherishes with the new administration of the city....

There are many schools in need and as we or the city ferrets them out .. ...we jointly visit the site and determine what is needed and to what participation each can help.....

We have received many donations of school supplies…and distribute those as we go visiting schools , meeting the children and principals, directors and teachers.....

The ongoing work is extremely gratifying....
