Time is fleeting--time has flown! We’re turning the corner where we will find that many of our members will be bidding farewell to paradise for another locale--perhaps another home or an exciting travel adventure. Between now and May l, most of you “snow birds” will be flying back to another nest. For those of you still in the neighborhood, don’t forget we still have a general meeting coming up on the second Tuesday of April (the 10th). Let’s see how many of you can manage your schedules to be there. Our new officers are in place and they will appreciate your support.

Although it might appear that activities are winding down , various committees will continue to meet and carry on their work for the next couple of months here and then via email. Plans are already in the works for social activities, and even raffle goods. Shirley Logan has not only donated an exquisite quilted wall hanging for a raffle next fall, but has also arranged with the Patches and Stitches quilting group, presided over by Elaina Munguia, to produce a magnificent quilt for a special IFC raffle. Additionally, we will also be looking to do more Ladies’ luncheons (and maybe even include men to occasionally join us.)

The luncheon held at the gorgeous home of Donna and Gil Johnson was a resounding success--we anticipated perhaps 25-30 attendees. The number climbed to 62 and we had to stop taking reservations. Donna, although flabergasted, was able to accommodate everyone comfortably. The KarpathosRestaurant food was delectable and the designs of Laura Lopez’s Boutique were exciting and very feminine. (Of course we’ll keep you all posted on the next occasion which will probably be at a restaurant, but not untill next season. To continue to promote these and other social events requires the willingness of members to not only join in the fun, but to contribute their share of help to bring these functions to fruition. Be ready to lend a hand next season.)

There are still a few of you who have not renewed for the year 2001. We appreciate that you might not always be able to attend a meeting or social event (like our March 20 Pot Luck Membership Party which was a very nice gathering, especially the entertainment provided by the young people’s Xitula dance group), but the Clubhouse is open 10 AM to 2 PM Monday through Friday and you can renew there. Also, you might consider just mailing your dues to APDO Postal 604 C.P. 48300, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. The renewal promoters have been at it again and the result is the following three new members.

WELCOME TO YOU. We hope to see you at one of our future meetings whenever you are again in residence.

DUSBALA, Liz - Baie D’urfe, Quebec, Canada

GREENBERG, Larry and Barbara - Blacklick, Ohio

HARPOLE, Don and Michellle - Fairbanks, Alaska

NORWOOD,William & Karen -Reisterstown, Maryland

RESTAURANTS: Keep this program in mind whenever you visit a restaurant--especially those you frequent often. A discount for our members will make a visit very attractive and can bring in repeat business. (Letters to carry with you explaining the concept are available at the Clubhouse.)

Something else to think about...

“The passage of time is as amusing as a week-old burrito.” Gonzles’ Observation. “He who waits to do a great deal of good at once, will never do anything.” Samuel Johnson. “Much has been done, but more remains to do.” Lord Byron.

Education Committee Report Cont from Pg 3

On the same day, I attended another “Reconocimiento” presentation. Murray Beer and each of some 20-school directors, teachers and student participants received recognition from the Mayor and the Department of Education, for a highly successful 6-session teacher Workshop on Special Education conducted by Murray Beer. Murray offered his services to the Club and I must say the reception by the Department of Education, and those attending, was exceptionally warm and welcoming. The Chief of Education could not stop expressing his appreciation for everything that Murray had done. Murray, thanks for enhancing the reputation of the IFC in the educational community and thanks for wanting to share your vast knowledge with those who want and need it most.

José de Jesús Quintanar also presented a “Reconocimiento” to the Club for not only Murray’s work but also for that of all members of the Education Committee. It was graciously accepted on behalf of the full Club membership.

Last but not least, on behalf of all of the Education Committee, I want to thank four very special people who have each done so much over the past winter to give us much needed support, through both their Club and personal commitment, to the education of the youth of Vallarta – Dave Bennie, Ruth Miller, Leon Rolnick and Irma Willis. Thanks guys. Keep the money, pencils, pens, etc. coming.

Coming events: The increase in government educational funding in the coming year means the Club will quickly reduce it’s participation in large construction projects while expanding activities in the Adopt-a-School and classroom supplies programs, school projects to upgrade existing facilities, construction of school patios and in the education direct-service organizations such as the Public Library and the Comité de Becas Vallarta scholarship program. We would also like to expand the collection and distribution of school supplies and, in conjunction with the Department of Education, offer support for specialized teacher workshops (put on by retired member educators like Murray Beer) to upgrade the skills of our local community teachers. We hope the next few years will provide many opportunities for our members to actively help and participate in our Community. See you next season.
